1. Is John Eldredge going to be there?
Nope. Many of us have been to John's retreats, and even taken his advanced training course. Now we feel God's call to bring this message to men in our world. The message and the flavor of our Boot Camp is styled after John's retreats in Colorado (with his permission), but this is our own event - by Canadians for Canadians.
2. What is a "Boot Camp"?
We believe that the concept of a boot camp, where soldiers are trained to take their place in the battle, best describes what this experience is all about. It's about taking back the ground that we have surrendered to the enemy of our soul. It's a boot camp for your heart. A time to awaken your heart, find your place in the battle and learn how to fight. A boot camp is the antithesis of a retreat. It's not about retreating. We just couldn't call this a retreat because the message is all about getting your heart back.
3. Are we going to do a bunch a military-type exercises?
Nope. This is a Boot Camp for your heart, soul, and spirit - not your body. Our desire is to awaken men's hearts, help them to find their place in the battle and then teach them how to fight.
4. Are we going to do some adventure activities?
We are planning to have some available during the afternoon free time. Some may involve an extra expense.
5. What's going to happen when I'm there?
Well, we trust that you are going to have one of the most powerful experiences of your life as you encounter Jesus and His heart for you.
6. OK, but what kind of 'stuff' will we do?
If we told you, we'd have to kill you. :)
7. What's this 'Band of Brothers' thing?
Well, like Clint Eastwood said, "A man alone is easy prey." We believe that following Jesus is more of a team game than an individual sport. If we're going to be all that God has called us to be we need each other to do it. The battles we face in life are far too intense to fight alone.
The phrase "Band of Brothers" was coined by Shakespeare in Henry V,
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in England, now a-bed,
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here;
And hold their manhoods cheap, whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
8. How does this Boot Camp relate to Wild At Heart?
The message of this Boot Camp is based on the book Wild At Heart. The camp itself is modeled after the Colorado-based Wild At Heart Boot Camps put on by John Eldredge and the Ransomed Heart team.
9. Is this Boot Camp the same as the Wild At Heart Band of Brothers video series?
No. There are some similarities, but this experience is very different. If you have been through the video series this camp will still have a big impact on you. |
